Overview

G.W. Lisk is seeking an experienced engineer with at least four years of experience to support the development of rotary variable differential transformers for aerospace applications.  The senior RVDT engineer will become familiar with the new product development process (NPDP). Theoretical calculations, analytical calculations, and hands-on work are required to facilitate the design, manufacture, and testing of position sensors for position feedback on electromechanical, hydraulic, and fueldraulic actuation applications.

 

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the senior RVDT engineer responsibilities include extracting design information from internal, customer, and industry specifications in order to apply product guidelines for part sizing, performance predictions, creating designs, and approving design changes.  Role will include new product development, product improvements, creating and testing mockup hardware for performance verification, and contributing to the creation of new product guidelines. This position requires close collaboration with customer, supplier, operations / manufacturing, and internal research and development resources.

Responsibilities

  • New product design and development
  • Review and summarize requirements from customer, internal, and industry specifications
  • Interface with suppliers, customers, and internal cross functional teams
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of technical challenges
  • Provide design guidance to customers and cross functional team
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Participates in and promotes development process and manufacturing process improvements within assigned areas.
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices, but includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, non-standard materials and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Provides direct support of sales and development by sharing information in the form of proposals and design reviews.
  • Independently troubleshoots and analyzes component problems.
  • Independently writes and performs component tests.
  • Sets technical direction on projects to developing engineers.
  • Generates, discusses, and maintains components design proposals with internal departments. Balances need of customer and industry specification with manufacturing/cost implications.
  • With the aid of a computer aided designer, creates detail designs using 2D and 3D drafting including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of BOMs; approves and provides markups for drawings.
  • Interface with venders and suppliers to procure concept and prototype level hardware in order to prepare for PPAP purchases
  • Work is generally performed in a normal office environment; however, the job may take the member into various areas of the plant where there is possible exposure to noise, chemical solutions, dust and elevated temperatures.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BSME or BSEE from ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 4 years of product design experience including project leadership experience.
  • Aerospace component design experience is a plus.
  • Design experience or understanding of variable differential transformers, magnet wire wound devices, or electromagnetics is a plus
  • Communication skills – Able to present complex technical data, both orally and in writing, in concise terms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Must have good conceptual skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend customer and industry requirements
  • Self-motivated
  • Enjoy challenges to lead several projects at a time.
  • Confident interfacing with customers and internal disciplines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentations (internal, customers and management)
  • Writes and communicates technical procedures and reports.
  • Competent skills in complex problem solving and trouble-shooting.
  • Competent knowledge of ERP tools such as Syteline.
  • Ability to effectively operate in the project team environment and communicate with Customers. May direct or lead work of technicians and designers.
  • Ability to apply DMAIC, 8D, risk management, and other DFSS tools on problems of greater complexity or severity.
  • Ability to create and complete decision matrices and trade studies as they relate to product value proposition
  • Competent use and understanding of FEA tools
  • Competent knowledge of engineering quality systems (PFMEA, engineering change, configuration management).
  • Ability to develop understanding of component function and testing requirements.
  • Understands manufacturing processes, shop standards, procedures, and how they impact designs.
  • Familiar with environmental testing to MIL-STD-810 and RTCA/DO-160 a plus.
  • Design for manufacture - exposure to machining processes and materials
  • Experience supporting design reviews
  • Design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA) experience
  • Design for reliability (DFR) experience
  • Design to Cost (DTC) experience
  • Finite element modeling - Maxwell/Ansys structural or equivalent
  • Exposure to magnet wire winding
  • Exposure to programming- Matlab/VBA/python etc.
  • Exposure to platform component development
  • Exposure to design guidelines composition

 

Compensation: $74,000.00 - $115,000.00 annual salary based on experience
